In our tests we found that the S8 Pro Ultra picked up the most surface debris and embedded dirt on carpets with medium pile and plain floors. The S8 Pro Ultra's vacuuming power falls a little short of our top choice Roomba's iRobot Roomba J7+. However, it is still a versatile and capable machine that is worth a look.

You can use the app to create a 3D model of your home, set no-go zones and schedule specific cleaning schedules. The app shows you an ongoing record of cleaning times and the area covered and lets you check the performance of each room and the area. You can also assign different cleaning methods to each space. If you own an Echo device or other smart speaker, you can also add voice control through Alexa or Google Assistant.

2. iRobot Roomba j7+

The iRobot Roomba j7+ robot vacuum is a great option for anyone who wants a self-emptying vacuum which can also mop. The model utilizes iRobot's Imprint Smart Mapping Technology to create a floorplan of your home to ensure it cleans rooms as efficiently as is possible. Other features include Dirt Detect to focus on areas that are less clean and Reactive Sensor Technology that helps the robot avoid obstacles in its route.

Another feature that is worth mentioning is the front camera on the j7+, which is advertised to help the robot recognize dangers such as power cords and pet waste and stay clear of them. The camera doesn't work so well in dim light however it's possible to consider a competitor with a better-performing camera, such as the Roborock S7 MaxV.

Lastly, I was pleased to discover that the iRobot j7+ automatically empties its dust bin into the Clean Base Automatic Dirt Disposal once it's docked. This is a huge improvement over competitors that require you to open and empty the bag manually. It's a small detail however it will help you save time and frustration.

One of the features that makes the T10 apart from other robot vacuums is its smart mapping technology that creates a precise three-dimensional map of your home's layout. This allows the robot to spot obstacles with greater precision and to adapt its course, enhancing the overall efficiency of cleaning.

Its intelligent features also include a high-quality microphone that responds to voice commands and the ECOVACS app is easy to use and provides many adjustable settings. It's only downside is the lack of the remote control. This could be a niggle for certain users.

The T10 OMNI is a great tool for cleaning pet hair. It was able to remove most of the fur from my carpets after two cleaning cycles, and was able to maneuver around furniture that was blocking its route.

Although it's not as hands-free as the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra, the T10 Omni is an excellent option for those seeking a self-emptying robotic mop and vacuum. The mop has the same power as the vacuums, and it comes with a more attractive design than Roomba. The T10's clever features compensate for the absence of the remote. With the app, you can easily start and stop a cleaning process. You can also schedule it and change the settings of your device.

4. Shark ION XL

Shark's top-of-the-line self-emptying robot vacuum The ION XL is an excellent option for those who want hands-free cleaning that has the highest level of performance. The vacuum comes with a huge bin that can store up to a month's worth of dirt. It can be set up to empty the bin at the conclusion of every cleaning session for long-term storage. The ION XL is one of the best robot vacuums on the market, suitable for carpets and hard flooring, and it can also sweep and mop your floors. The robot can also maneuver around furniture and can move through carpeted and stairs with ease.

I tested the IONXL with our standard test for debris in a family space and kitchen with hardwood flooring and area rugs. It was excellent at vacuuming, removing pet hair and debris from the floors, and also took care of some of the most stubborn crumbs that accumulated on carpets. It was also good at maneuvering and didn't get in the way of my bar stools like the iRobot j7+ in this test. The only issue is that the IONXL cannot detect toys, cords and shoes in its path, therefore you'll need to pre-clean your house before running this robot vacuum if you want it to avoid these items.

The ION XL may not be as efficient as the iRobot J7+, but it's a good alternative if you don't wish to spend more than $500 for cleaning robots. It's better than the eufy RoboVac 11S, in many ways. It's more easy to maintain and has lower recurring costs. It's also better in vacuuming floors that are not clean and removing pet fur, but isn't as effective on low- or carpets with higher pile.

It's not as sturdy but it's still a solid option. The ION XL is a powerful machine that has a large capacity bin. It is operated by an app or voice command, and is simple to maintain. It is also a reasonable price.
