Active Noise Cancellation

Bose QuietComfort headphones are known for their superior noise cancellation. However Bose also produces various premium headphones that don't require or offer this feature. Its products typically occupy the premium end of the market and are made of premium materials but they're also lightweight, sweat-resistant and comfortable enough to last for long listening sessions.

The flagship 700s are a fantastic example of this. They have an upgraded eight-microphone system (six for cancelling sound, two for picking up voices) and 11 custom ANC modes that let you listen to the world, or block it out completely. They also come with the "Conversation Mode", which allows you to temporarily pause the music in order to make an announcement or make a phone call.

Bose TruSleeve is another excellent feature. It's a cover that can be removed that wraps around your neck and sits over your upper ear to reduce noise while you're out and out and about. It's available on all QuietComfort products and can be customized using the app to suit your ears and lifestyle.

In comparison to our top choice, the Sony WH-1000XM5, the 700s have much better microphone performance for phone calls. This makes them a great choice for people who take calls frequently and want to be heard clearly while traveling.

The headphones can be connected to your mobile device with Bluetooth 4.2 and Bose's exclusive A2DP protocol. The only downside is that they don't support the most current Bluetooth codecs like aptX Adaptive or LDAC which allow playback that is lossless.

The Bose Sport Earbuds have a slimmer, more elegant design than the QuietComfort Earbuds that are the company's flagship product. They are great for working out and running. They come with a battery life of up to five hours, which is enough for most workouts. The buds have an inbuilt microphone and are water resistant. You can control them with the included remote or with the companion app. The app allows you to change settings for ANC and Bose's Aware Mode.

Controls

The 700s do not have physical controls on the earcups unlike most of Bose's headphones. Instead, you'll find a touch panel on the front portion of the right earcup that can detect swipes and taps. Tap twice to play or pause, swipe up to raise the volume, down to lower it, and then forward to skip tracks. A single-tap answers calls, and a double-tap rejects incoming call.

The headset also allows you to toggle the mode known as "aware," which enables some sort of a view of your surroundings. It's a great feature for anyone who has to be aware of their environment while listening to music or making phone calls.

A motion detector turns off your headphones when they are not in use. It's a welcome addition for people who forget to turn their headphones off or are easily distracted while using headphones. You can alter the Auto-Off timer settings on your Bose 700 headphones in the Bose Connect app.

The app is used to alter the features of the headphones, such as the audio settings, noise cancellation levels and voice prompt languages. It's also where you'll get updates for your Bose headphones. You may be asked to divulge certain personal details for this to work however, that's the norm for this type of app. You can also change your Bluetooth preferences and use the battery reading feature to see how much power is left in your headphones. Design

The NCH 700s have 10 adjustable levels of noise cancellation and even at the highest level, it's quite impressive. Their microphones are also stellar with six of the eight microphones tucked inside of the headband helping to isolate voices from background noise. Two of the mics double as noise-rejection sensors to help reduce background hiss and echo during calls.

Unlike some of their competitors, Bose headphones tend to have a minimalist design, with just a few buttons on the headband. The left cup has an adjustable noise-cancelling button and the right cup has switches to power/Bluetooth and launch digital assistants. There's also a touch-sensitive panel on the right cup which lets you play/pause music, skip tracks, and adjust volume with simple gestures.

Bose headphones are perfect for mobile use. The majority of models, both on and over the ear, feature plenty of padding that provides an ideal fit. They're also very light and portable which makes them a great choice for travel. The only drawback to the Bose headphone line is that their wireless headphones don't block out as much ambient noise as their competitors.
