Titration

A comprehensive assessment of your ADHD symptoms will be carried out by a highly experienced consultant psychiatrist. This includes a thorough medical history, and an assessment using the standard ADHD questionnaires and rating scales.

After your examination, you will be informed if medication is considered to be beneficial in your case. This will take place at your follow-up appointment (which could be in person, via video link or via phone). Your clinician will explain the various options for medication and, if you choose to start on medication we will suggest titrating dosage to ensure the benefits/side effects balance for you.

This process could take several weeks, and requires gradually altering your child's dosage until the appropriate balance has been achieved. It's not uncommon to need to adjust several times before determining the most effective one for your child's ADHD symptoms. It is essential for parents to be involved in this titration process and keep an watchful eye on their child's behavior so that they can inform the doctor whether the medication is helping or causing adverse effects.

If you decide to go back to NHS treatment, you will receive a private prescription for your medication. You will be required to pay for your prescription at the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation cost. You must attend regular appointments every six months to monitor your medication. This includes blood pressure and pulse readings. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

After the assessment is complete, you can schedule follow-up appointments with your psychiatrist. Typically, the appointment will take place via a zoom video call however in some instances it might be possible to schedule an audio-only consultation (again at an additional cost).

At this point, we will discuss any treatment options and come up with a unique ADHD medication titration program. This will include a review and discussion of your medication dose, as well as any side effects that you may be experiencing. Make sure that your GP accepts the Shared Care Agreement, which means you will be referred to them when you leave the clinic for prescription medication.

Medication
